Good Word

We understand that there are many different learning styles when it comes to reading and writing. Approximately one in five children experience challenges in these areas. It is estimated that over one million Canadian children lack adequate reading skills for their grade level. Therefore, it is essential to broaden our understanding of how our brains are wired to learn these skills effectively. Structured reading programs can equip learners with the necessary skills and strategies for success.

Structured literacy program focuses on five key components of reading through sequenced instruction, tailored to build on each student's strengths and address their challenges:

Phonological Awareness

The ability to process and manipulate oral language.

Sound-Symbol Association

Learning the sounds of symbols, blending, and decoding.

Morphology

Understanding the smallest units of meaning in a word, such as prefixesand suffixes.

Syntax

Understanding parts of speech and grammar.

Semantics

Enhancing comprehension.

Good Word program is designed as an early intervention initiative to address the critical need for early literacy support in our education system. By providing children with a solid foundation in reading and writing, Good Word program helps them thrive and develop a fun, enjoyable love for literacy.
